This post is about something God has really been pressing on me lately. (And then I read a blog post the other day by a dear lady which completely echoed exactly what God has been speaking to me–almost down to the last word. Go read her post…she says it so much more eloquently than I will.)
I was reading in Matthew 4 the other evening and these two verses struck a chord in me.
“And He saith unto them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.”
..and they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.
I have nets in my life. Do I drop them straightway when God calls me away from them? Am I willing?
Peter and Andrew heard the call of God and immediately dropped their lives as they currently knew them and followed Jesus without looking back. They didn’t have to stop and pray about whether it was really the call of God. They didn’t fuss over what they had to give up. They didn’t worry about whether or not they would be provided for. They didn’t wait until their current situations in life freed them up to follow. They didn’t wait for their own timing.
They straightway left their nets and followed Him.
God has called me to something. It is with great regret that I confess that I have not immediately dropped my nets and followed Him when I heard His call. Thank You, Jesus, for opening my eyes!
Tonight, I choose to drop my nets–once and for all. I give up all that I’m tempted to cling to. I surrender. I turn my eyes away from looking at what I would be leaving behind, and I choose to look, instead, on what is before me–and oh! what fulfillment there is in walking in the way of God!
I can no longer ignore the voice of my Saviour. I’m leaving my nets, God, and following You. I love You.
